UNGANG Lee Gang-nyeonMEMORIAL

About the Ungang Lee Gang-nyeon Memorial

Mungyeong Coal Museum was built in the business area of Eunseong anthracite coal mine which was developed in 1938 during the Japanese colonial rule of Korea, thus enabling Mungyeong to be the number two coal production place of the country until it was abandoned in 1994, as coal gave way to petroleum and gas. The museum, which opened in 1999, gives you a glimpse of the coal mining history of Korea. It is shaped like a coal and it consists of the main building, coal tunnel experience center, tunnel exhibition center, workers' residence village, and outdoor exhibition center.
