Gaeun AjagaeStreet Market

About the Gaeun Ajagae Street Market

  • Gaeun Ajagae Street Market

Gaeun Ajagae market was formed in the Chosun Dynasty, and opened formally in 1981. It forms an independent market as it is a bit far from Mungyeong and has a mine village in it. The mine was closed down by the 'coal industry rationalization policy' in the early 80s and therefore the market activity decreased. In 2011, it was reopened to the public as a cultural and historical tour site. This has revived the market. Lots of wild herbs collected in deep mountains like Daeyasan, such as pine mushrooms, bracken, wild plants, aralia shoots, and wild greens.
