About the Gaeun Open Filming Location

  • History

    The filming location was set up by using the ancient building restoration method based on the survey of Goguryeo fortress and on months of historical records. The flamboyant colors of Goguryeo tomb murals were applied to the location in order to express the Goguryeo pioneering spirit in modern-day Mungyeong space. The films that were shot here included Yeon Gaesomun, Sejong the Great, Princess Ja Myung Go, Queen Dowager Cheonchu, Queen Seondeok, Gyebaek, King Geunchogo, Gwanggaeto the Great, Deep Rooted Tree, Dream of the Emperor, Kundo: Age of the Rampant, and Jeong Dojeon. The location is famous for its historical drama filming.

    No. 1 Filming Location
    It features the Pyeongyangseong Fortress, Goguryeogung Palace, Sillagung Palace, Goguryeo Village, and Silla Village. The rear of Goguryeogung Palace, which leads to Seongnae Village, features a tavern, a blacksmith's workshop, etc.

    No. 2 Filming Location
    It features the Ansiseong Fortress and Seongnae Village. Ansiseong Battle, which heralded the start of the drama Yeon Gaesomun, was filmed here.

    No. 3 Filming Location
    It features the Yodongseong Fortress and Seongnae Village. Past the fortress gate are the thatched-roof houses, government office, and markets for medicinal herbs and liquors.
