About the Yongchu Valley

  • Yongchu Valley

From the entrance to Seonyudong, drive 600 m along Local Road 922 until you see the Mt. Daeyasan parking lot signboard. From there, you can turn left and park your car at the parking lot. From the village, walk up the hiking trail 800 m to the pass where you will see the rest area and restaurants at the entrance to Yongchu Valley.
Mt. Daeyasan offers a number of spectacular views, particularly the two-level Yongchu Waterfall due to its most splendid view. From the gigantic granite rocks on both sides of the waterfall ponds, a pair of male and female dragons flew upwards according to the legend, and as if to prove this legend, clear traces of the dragons struggling to fly upwards have been left. The waterfall has never been dry, and legend says that people used to pray for rain in the most severe droughts.
The two waterfall ponds are connected to each other. The upper pond, which is greatly admired by viewers, is deep and shaped like a heart after a myriad of years of waterfall movement.
The rock, through which the water slides from the upper pond to the lower pond, also offers a good slide for children during summer.
Pass through the wide, rocky zone over Yongchu Waterfall, and walk up for 20 minutes. Yet another attraction, Wolyeongdae, awaits you, where the valley stream with snow-like white rocks and clearest water reflects the moon up in the sky, thereby creating a breathtaking scene.
