About the Mt. Huiyangsan

Mt. Huiyangsan, along with gigantic rock peaks, allows Gaeun-eup in Mungyeong-si to border with Yeonpung-myeon, Goesan-gun, Chungcheongbuk-do, and stands tall on the branch running from Mungyeong Saeja to Mt. Soknisan in the Baekdudaegan Mountain Range. In the old days, people said that Mt. Huiyangsan was shaped like an armored warrior riding on horseback and advancing forward. Monk Jijeung was impressed after observing the central valley of Mt. Huiyangsan and said, "The valley is surrounded by mountains like folding screens and resembles the wings of a phoenix flying up to the clouds. The valley water is like hundreds of bands, so the stream looks like a dragon lying down on a rock." The branch of Baekdudaegan Mountain Range, which created Mt. Taebaeksan, bends to the west here, thus creating the roughest mountains in this area. Among these mountains, the most outstanding is Mt. Huiyangsan. The southern foot area, which is banned from people entering, except on Buddha's Day, features Bongamsa Temple, a special training building for the Jogye Order (opening for Buddha's Day, April 8 based on the lunar calendar).
